Longtime supporters of Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, the Feldmans made a significant gift to help fund the hospital’s expansion and renovation project.
Deb and Alan Feldman established business careers and raised three daughters while living in southwest suburban Hinsdale for two decades. But it wasn’t until friends invited the couple to a Good Samaritan Hospital gala that they understood what an exceptional health care facility was located in neighboring Downers Grove. Since then, Deb has co-chaired the gala several times and served on the hospital’s Development Council. Alan is now a member of Good Samaritan Hospital’s Governing Council and also co-chairs the hospital’s fundraising campaign to help fund its historic expansion and renovation project.
To help kick-off the campaign, Deb and Alan made a significant gift to a key aspect of the project: the renovation and consolidation of the hospital’s cardiovascular services. Scheduled for completion in early 2015 and named for the Feldmans in recognition of their gift, the initiative will bring together cardiac diagnostics, catheterization, observation, recovery and rehabilitation in one convenient location. “Heart care is a strong service line at Good Samaritan, and this will make it even better,” Alan says.
A retired corporate executive, Alan has held positions as president and CEO of Midas International and as president and COO of McDonald’s in the Americas. Deb began her health care career as a technology writer for the American Hospital Association and ultimately served as director of its American Hospital Purchasing & Materials Management Society.
Both Feldmans have M.B.A.s and an astute understanding of what it takes to run an organization well. They are not surprised that Good Samaritan Hospital is a winner of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, a Magnet-designated hospital for nursing excellence, and consistently ranked among the country’s 100 Top Hospitals. “When I saw the amazing work done under president and CEO David Fox, I was so impressed,” Deb says. “Good Samaritan’s emphasis on communication and accountability is extraordinary. And the rewards in patient safety and clinical efficacy are significant.”
Asked why it’s important to support the hospital, Alan says, “As a community, we need to invest in excellent health care—and, at Good Samaritan, we will get great returns. The campaign will make sure the hospital has an outstanding physical environment to match its outstanding clinical outcomes.”
