Advocate Christ Medical Center
Advocate Christ Medical Center opened in 1961 following a fundraising effort led by Southland community members. Thanks to the commitment of all who believe in its mission, Christ Medical Center has evolved into one of the top hospitals in the United States.
Area residents, physicians, business leaders and others continue to invest philanthropically to help ensure the best possible health care experience for patients, visitors and physicians in training. Donors help Christ Medical Center construct state-of-the-art facilities, acquire leading-edge technology and sponsor research, education and community outreach programs, among other initiatives. Now, in an era of declining reimbursements and increasing health needs, charitable gifts are more important than ever in ensuring local access to the very best care.

The Advocate Trauma Recovery Center is a health care-based violence intervention program that provides quality services and resources for survivors of intentional trauma with compassion, respect and care. Our purpose is to aid individuals who have experienced trauma in rebuilding, restoring and strengthening their sense of safety by ending the cycle of violence. We provide access to trauma-informed care by acknowledging how past and present traumatic experiences and stress may impact the individuals and families we are serving. Our team is specially trained to support the unique needs of survivors and their families to foster hope for a better future.
The Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Program at Advocate Christ Medical Center offers compassionate and comprehensive care our patients. We have two inpatient units, one that is a 21-bed adult psychiatric unit, and one that is a 13-bed geriatric and medical psychiatric unit. We have an outpatient program which serves both adolescents and adults, with partial and full day programming. Additionally, we have substance abuse counselors who support patients on medical units and provide an outpatient group every weekday evening. Our patients are a group that often lacks resources to stay well. We want to provide a beautiful and healing environment for them, and resources to stay well once discharged.
Christ Medical Center is a premier referral center for cancer care in Illinois, with oncologists who have pioneered numerous procedures, therapies and treatment protocols. Your gift will help ensure a comprehensive continuum of care and services for hundreds of newly diagnosed cancer patients annually—as well as for the more than 1,200 who leave active treatment and transition into survivorship care each year.
State-designated as both a Level I Trauma Center and an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics, Christ Medical Center also trains a new generation of emergency physicians. The Heart Institute at Christ Medical Center is Illinois’ premier cardiac care center, performing more than 1,300 open-heart surgeries and 5,000 cardiac interventions each year, with health outcomes that top national benchmarks. Christ Medical Neurosciences Institute integrates a full array of treatments and expertise to address the many dimensions of neurologic care for adults and children. From brain tumors and stroke care to dizziness and balance disorders, our medical staff features some of the most experienced specialists in the region and the nation. More patients are treated at our accredited, comprehensive stroke center than anywhere else in the Chicago area. Our designation as a comprehensive stroke center means our stroke team has proven it treats the most complex cases and responds quickly to save brain cells and preserve quality of life. Philanthropy will help us provide advanced treatments and multidisciplinary approach to addresses the full scope of each patient’s specific needs.
As a Magnet-designated facility for nursing excellence, we continually measure new knowledge, innovations and improvements. Nursing’s focus on these three areas drives evidence-based practices and research. These projects and the opportunities to present research at conferences are funded through charitable gifts raised. Support will be provided to nurses at every level to expand their nursing knowledge and transform the lives of individual patients, families and members of our communities.
The President’s Fund for Special Needs is designed to provide our leadership with the financial flexibility to make annual investments that extend access to care, educate medical staff, nurses and team members, invest in our facilities and improve patient care. Support of the President’s Fund for Special Needs will have a direct impact on the entire hospital and will help us better serve our patients and community.
