How young people are making an impact during COVID-19

Not Your Father’s Foundation in La Grange, IL, is not your typical charitable organization. It’s run by a group of young philanthropists working to inspire the spirit of giving in people their own age.

“Our parents started their own foundation, One for the Kids, which has been a longtime supporter of Advocate Children’s Hospital. It’s how we initially got involved in philanthropy, but after high school we wanted to do our own thing,” explained Emmett Corrigan, vice president of Not Your Father’s Foundation. “We started with a group of five, and now we’re up to 15 board members.”

Not Your Father’s Foundation acts as a junior board for One for the Kids, and the two groups often partner to make a positive impact in their community. When COVID-19 hit, they wanted to help.

“We decided to hold a ‘Give Back Week’ and raise funds to provide meals to as many health care workers and first responders as we could. We got such a great response that it was almost overwhelming.”

Together, the two foundations provided $1,500 worth of meals to team members at Advocate Children’s Hospital – Oak Lawn.

“I can’t imagine how tough everything has been since COVID-19 started. Everyone was so grateful when we dropped the meals off. It’s pretty awesome knowing we can help out and make a difference,” said Emmett.

The organizations also provided meals to local firefighters and other first responders.

“It’s exciting to give, but it’s also great to work alongside other young people who are passionate about philanthropy. We’re glad we could support the people who are on the front lines of the pandemic.”
