When COVID-19 slowed his catering business to a halt, Ravi Jayara wanted to do something to show he cared about health care workers on the frontlines of the pandemic.
“We’re in a position to help, and I wanted to give back,” he explained.
So, he and his team at Chic Chef Catering got to work, cooking and donating 120 lunches and dinners each week to team members at Advocate Christ Medical Center.
“I know they probably don’t have time to think about eating. I just want to thank them for all they do. It comes from the heart.”
Ravi is inspired by the bravery and courage shown by health care heroes. He also gives to honor the memory of his father, who passed away last year. He received much of his care at Advocate Aurora Health.
“My dad was always giving back, and I learned from him to help out when I can,” shared Ravi. “When he was sick, his care team was so supportive, and they all knew him by name, which shows how much they cared about him. They made me appreciate health care workers even more.”
Chic Chef Catering has donated more than $30,000 worth of meals so far – not only to team members, but also to local senior centers and police departments – and Ravi doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon.
“I’m happy we’re able to help, and we’ll continue to do so as long as we can,” he said. “We just want to say, ‘thank you’ and show that we care.”
