Connecting families and continuing traditions

Volunteers helped pack and distribute groceries at last year’s Family to Family Thanksgiving.

Last year, Advocate Health Care and Aurora Health Care joined together to create Advocate Aurora Health, the 10th largest not-for-profit health system in the country. Your generosity will continue to make health care more accessible and compassionate for each person we serve. Here, we’re sharing stories about people, just like you, who are making a difference.

It’s hard to believe, but the holiday season is just around the corner. While this time of year evokes feelings of joy and fond memories for many, others may be anxious about the season because they don’t have the means to provide a holiday meal for their families.

That’s where Aurora Family Service—and YOU—come in.

For more than two decades, Aurora Family Service, its volunteers and many generous donors like you have helped provide a complete set of Thanksgiving groceries to Milwaukee families that might not otherwise have a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

It’s a gift that means so much to so many, like Bonnie and her family:

“We couldn’t afford a whole Thanksgiving meal. With these items given, it helps my household of eight have a full Thanksgiving meal and leftovers afterwards. We are grateful for what was given. Our Thanksgiving is going to be a joyous one this year. Thanks!”

Since the program began in 1996, more than 67,000 families have enjoyed Thanksgiving meals together.

Carolyn writes, “Unexpected challenges like sickness, unemployment, death and an overdue utility bill with a cutoff notice can take your last $20 or $30 you have left from your check, and you don’t have the money to buy a turkey and the trimmings. We are grateful there is a community service that helps a family or individual enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner.”
