Making Healthy Happen at the Chicago Marathon

Laura Snyder, a registered nurse at Advocate Lutheran General, is motivated to train for the Chicago Marathon as part of Team Advocate for deeply personal reasons.

“I made a huge change to my lifestyle last summer, and a big piece of that change has been becoming more physically active!” said Laura. “Doing so has tremendously helped my mental health, and since I work in mental health at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, it made sense to join Team Advocate.”

Laura admits she feels right at home on Team Advocate: She was born at Advocate Lutheran General, was hired on for a role at Advocate when she was 19 years old, and eventually met her husband at Advocate Illinois Masonic. She is so excited to run this year’s Chicago Marathon – her first marathon ever – and hopes her story will inspire others to persist in the face of challenging times, whether it’s on or off the race track.

How you can help

The 2019 Bank of America Chicago Marathon is Sunday, October 13, 2019. By joining or Team Advocate or making a gift, you will be a part of a diverse group of people who are supporting cancer research, helping children and adults with Down syndrome, giving back to the nurses and physicians who save lives each day and much more. Since 2011, our charity team has raised more than $1 million dollars for Advocate Health Care programs and services. Each runner can designate the hospital or program of their choice to receive the funds they raise. Register here or donate to support Team Advocate!
