In the spring of 2014, I opened Brilliance Subaru of Elgin right across the street from Advocate Sherman Hospital. Being involved in the community is very important to me, so I reached out to our new neighbor to see how we could support the hospital.
When I met with the hospital leadership, several ideas on how we might both benefit from a relationship focused on a philanthropic partnership. In initial conversations, I mentioned that I had recently become a board member of the Chicago Automobile Trade Association (CATA). Sherman Hospital was well aware of the CATA’s involvement with the Chicago Auto Show’s First Look for Charity annual black-tie event benefiting Chicago-area charities. It is a glamorous and fun event, with great entertainment and food, and a sneak peek at hundreds of new cars and trucks—some of them on display for the first time anywhere. There is no better way to enjoy the Chicago Auto Show.
As a board member, I have the opportunity to put forward a Chicago-area not-for-profit organization that can sell tickets to the exclusive event and receive a significant portion of the proceeds for their designated project or cause. We succeeded in naming Sherman Hospital as one of the 18 beneficiary charities in 2015—and since have decided to open it up to all Advocate sites.
This year, First Look for Charity benefits Advocate Heart Institute, which includes Advocate Children’s Heart Institute. Proceeds will advance research to help transform care and improve the lives of families for generations to come, ensuring Advocate can continue to make a difference for patients big and small.
I am confident that the upcoming First Look for Charity on Friday, February 10, 2017, at McCormick Place will be a huge success. I hope to see you there!
